About AEC
The Asian Educational Consortium (AEC) evolved from a school
in Singapore offering correspondence courses in computer
training in the early 1980s.

About e-Quals
e-Quals are innovative IT qualifications covering everything
from basic IT to the latest professional skills. Developed with
leading industry experts and regconised by employers around the
world, the awards are designed to be as flexible as possible;
you can gain recognition for skills you already have, progress
at your own pace and go as far as you want to go.
e-Quals routes for learning
There are several routes to an IT qualification through e-Quals.
Some are designed for general IT users and others for IT
professionals in software development or systems support.
Each of these routes can be followed to different levels;
- Level 1 (only for IT users) builds basic IT skills and
confidence
- Level 2 widens knowledge and develops existing skills
- Level 3 combines planning and organising with a high level
of skills
for supervisory and management roles
Currently available e-Quals
IT User Level 1 (Certificate)
One core unit: IT principles. Two of the optional units: word
processing; spreadsheets; databases; using the internet;
presentation graphics; email; and desk top publishing.
IT User Level 2 (Diploma)
One core unit: IT principles. Two of the optional units: word
processing; spreadsheets; databases; using the internet;
presentation graphics; computerised accounts; desk top
publishing; integrated applications; multimedia; and website
design.
IT User Level 3 (Advance Diploma)
One core unit: IT principles. Two of the optional units: word
processing; spreadsheets; desk top publishing; integrated
applications; website design; and relational databases.
The
MOS route
The new Microsoft Office Specialist route through e-Quals
This new arrangement lets you follow a Microsoft Office
Specialist course as part of a City & Guilds e-Quals programme.
If you pass the Microsoft Office Specialist test, City & Guilds
will accept that as proof of you skills in that area. You won’t
have to do the City & Guilds’ assessment in the same area.
For example, if you pass the Microsoft Office Specialist test
(Core Level) in word, you can claim the World processing unit in
City & Guilds IT User Level 2 (e-Quals) without any additional
assessment.
Computerised Accounts
Who is the computerised Accounts qualification for?
- Level 1 is suitable for people seeking a first
qualification in the practical use of computerized
accounts, and who may progressing from Book-Keeping and
Account level 1
- Level 2 is open to people seeking certification of
broad experience and aiming to extend their skills
in this field, perhaps following on from Book-Keeping and
Account level 2
- Level 3 is for skilled and experienced users with a
solid understanding of manual book-keeping and
accounting principles, as well as some working knowledge of
computerised accounts, who are
looking for a qualification that reflects their knowledge and
ability.
What is covered?
- Level 1: provides an introduction to the use of
standard accounting software, and includes adding new accounts
to Purchase/Sales Ledgers, creating new accounts in the
Nominal Ledger, processing invoices, credit notes, receipts
and payments, calculating and reconciling Batch Totals and
printing out copies of ledgers, balances and accounts.
- Level 2: in addition to the skills required at
Level 1 (above) candidates are expected to: enter initial
capital, cash, cheque and other bank transactions (eg standing
orders, direct debits) correct errors by means of Credit Notes
or journal adjustments, enter Tax Reference Codes and/or
percentages (eg VAT or Sales Tax), produce a Trial Balance,
produce an Aged Debtors and Customer/Account Schedule.
- Level 3: includes setting up and operating a
computerised account software package, involving the
interpretation and processing of both routine and non-routine
transactions, together with the production of profit & loss
account and balance sheet.

All Certificates, Diploma and Advanced Diploma are issued by
City & Guilds. These awards are internationally reconised.
